Strengthening the Fact-Checking Ecosystem in Croatia
Published Monday 23 June 2025 at 13:40
This report provides an update on the fact-checking ecosystem in Croatia, following the ADMO Report (Buconić, 2025) on platform-led initiatives for empowering users, researchers, and fact-checkers. While earlier fi ndings highlighted the dominance of a single factchecking
actor (Faktograf.hr), opaque funding mechanisms, and weak collaboration with Very Large Online Platforms (VLOPs), recent developments mark significant progress driven by EU regulations.
A key advancement is the launch of the national platform Točno tako (“Exactly so”), established through the EU-funded project Establishing Fact-Checking and Open Data Disclosure Systems. The platform coordinates the work of 21 newly formed, independent fact-checking initiatives, each focused on thematic areas such as food (FoodFacts) and gender disinformation (GenderFacts). It promotes knowledge exchange, editorial independence and accessibility for journalists, researchers and citizens.
